The Power of the Necktie

I recently wore a series of solid yet bold colored neckties.  There is a psychology behind necktie colors but I was thinking of this when I selected these ties.  I was just trying to look presentable for work.  On day one I wore a dark red necktie, with a white shirt and a solid blue suit.  I left for work thinking about how dull this ensemble looked but by 11am I’d gotten three compliments and was asked if I had an interview.  Later in the week I wore a burnt orange necktie with a blue shirt and a grey micro-check suit.  One of my colleagues asked if I was wearing a new suit.  I’d worn the suit dozens of times.

A couple of takeaways - A bold necktie can enhance your presence.  A red or orange necktie in particular, catches the eye and promotes strength and energy.   Also, because the bold necktie is eye-catching, people will focus more on the tie and less on the suit you’re wearing, which can be a good thing especially, as in my case, the suit has been worn many times and is now a little snug around the waist.

Have a little fun with this.  Wear ties of varying intensity and let me know how it works out.  You can post your experiences directly on the blog.
